A combination of faith and philosophy does not necessarily yield an Erasmian point of view. Erasmus especially wanted to serve philosophy, or 'the love of wisdom'. Erasmus is always about more than grammar or rhetoric. Even if he writes on linguistic topics, you can be sure that before you know it he will be addressing something social or political again.
In Venice he introduced himself to the printing house of Aldus Manutius who published his Adagia. (a collection of Latin proverbs) that before long would be in use in humanist schools throughout Europe.
