Using the ability to think and leaving behind the dichotomies of good and evil, of right and wrong in order to ascend to a level of awareness where they are able to use these as supplementary and complementary, the individual waits at the brink of hell to go down the stairs of their own darkness one by one, and to light their own light. The bottom of the hole is the center of the fire and the final stage of hell. The shimmering bronze surface also carries the sky with its mirroring function. Here, nature is tempered and seasoned with fire. The individual holding the nine-step ladder representing the nine stages of Dante's Hell, commands his own free will through his mind during this inner reflection and journey of self-knowledge.
