Jacob and the Angel

Rome, Italy

The portraying chosen by Crocetti shows the moment of the reveal, the second in which Jacob understands that he’s fighting against the divine angel: the arm wielding against the heavenly creature opens its hand and surrenders to the grip and the outstretched body is caught in the act of falling on his knees and plead for benediction. The whole composition is about the representation of opposing movements: the angel as well stretches itself towards Jacob opening the wings which follow his tunic animated by his own steps.
