Jacob wrestling with the Archangel

The scene depicts one of the most mysterious bible scenes. Jaсob took up the struggle with Somebody, who came at night and was fighting with him till the dawn. (Genesis 32, 25-28). In the morning, Somebody, realizing that he would not defeat Jacob, touched Jacob’s thigh and started begging to let him go. Jacob, having understood that he fought with God asked for blessing. Jacob received God’s blessing together with a new name Israel (struggler with God). We can see a tense moment of struggle, which symbolizes spiritual struggle, the winner of which is Jacob, blessed by God.
