James Keiller & Son’s Dundee Marmalade Pot

Three ceramic sherds, recovered from the 2007 Stage 4 excavation of the Bishop’s Block site in Toronto, Ontario, make up most of the transfer label on the side of this ironstone Keiller & Son’s Marmalade pot. They were found in Townhouse 3, which records state cycled through many occupants and served as a boarding house three separate times from 1875-1893. Keiller’s was the first commercially produced brand of marmalade in Great Britain, sold in variously sized jars by the pound and imported from Scotland.
