One of the most famous Lithuanian noblemen of the 17th century, the Grand Duke of Vilnius and Grand Hetman of Lithuania, Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius, was most famous for his victory over the Swedes at the Battle of Salaspils. The oval depicts the warlord holding an ornate etmonaur's mace, with the elaborate five-headed family coat of arms used by the nobleman's father, Jonas Jeronimytis Chodkevičius, embedded in the upper left corner.
