Jan Matejko's biographer - Marian Gorzkowski recalled that the artist went with his wife and daughter on an artistic journey that led through Częstochowa and Warsaw to the Grunwald fields, and then through Malbork and Toruń in Pomerania, to Gdańsk. According to the biographer's memoirs, Matejko stayed in Warsaw for a few days at the end of September 1877.
