Japanese flowering cherry

Prunus 'Amanogawa' is a cultivar of Japanese flowering cherry and its name means 'Heaven's River' in Japanese and refers to the galaxy, which is viewed as a river in Japan. It dates back to 1886 and was introduced in Europe around 1916. 'Amanogawa' is notable for its unusual habit, small and fastigiate, giving it another common name of flagpole cherry. Late spring flowers are pale pink, semi-double and slightly fragratn. Fall leaf color is orange and red.
