Jenny Lind suffrage banner

Banner, pink synthetic satin weave ground with blue silk velvet borders along the top and vertical edges, lettering 'Jenny Lind' and branches of leaves painted with silver paint and outlined with silver metal wrapped cord, appliquéd yellow plain weave silk harp with black embroidered details, outlined with yellow silk wrapped cord, appliquéd swan motif of undyed plain weave cotton outlined with velvet black cord, on a circle of blue silk velvet, lined with undyed cellulosic fabric, one metal and four plastic rings attached to top of lining for hanging, red wool cord with a tassel at each end threaded through hanging rings, used in Jun 1908 National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS) procession.

Jenny Lind was known as "den svenska sångsvanen" or "the Swedish whooper swan" (whooper swan translates to singing swan in Swedish). It is known to have a very beautiful and musical death cry, which is connected to the metaphorical swan song.
