Jeonbok is a long and sleeveless military overcoat. Jeonbok was also called kweja or dapho. Kweja (sleeveless military overcoat with narrower shoulders) was used either as military uniform or as daily dress, with different colors and materials as well as different combinations. According to the Recorded Events at the Royal Court 宮中件記, one wore kweja over dongdari for military purpose and over a plain overcoat called durumagi 周衣 as daily dress. Kweja as military uniform was mostly made of black outer layer and blue inner layer while kweja as daily dress was a single or double layer of overcoat in indigo blue or similar colors. Jeonbok has black outer layer with red lining. In the picture is a double-layered jeonbok that lost its two knotted buttons and only keeps two hooks. The jeonbok is made of black gauze on the outside and red gauze on the inside, all in the pattern of dragon.
