What changed over the millennia was only the type of material, but not the intention of the wearer. The arm rings and ankle rings from Wildeshausen come from a hoard on the edge of a moor. So, these rings were apparently not only worn as jewellery, but were so valuable for their owner that they were sacrificed to the gods.
