Leopoldstadt Temple was officially inaugurated six years after the founding of the community in 1852. With its magnificent façade, seating for 2,240 people and standing room for a further 1,500, it reflected the increased self-awareness of the rapidly growing community. The donor board lists numerous welfare associations – impressive testimony to the efforts of the community to combat poverty, particularly among the new immigrants.
