In 2021, Jam and Lewis released their debut album as artists, Volume One, which featured collaborations with artists including Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Morris Day and the Roots. “I think over the years, it evolved in different time periods,” Lewis says of the duo’s collaborative process. “But generally, Jimmy’s more music and I’m more lyrics. And we both do melody. It depends who the artist is and what the application is. I do music, but I had so many good players around me, I didn’t have to. So I was able to focus more on doing lyrics and vocal production, which to me, is the biggest part of the interface. When you’re creating a record, when you get with the artist, the vocal performance is everything, because that’s the heart of the song. So that’s kind of the way we break it up.”
