Mounted above this portrait is a short extract of text, presumably from his obituary. It reads, "Sunday died in the 84th year of his age, at his house in Red Lion Square, Holborn, that ingenious mechanick, Mr John Harrison, inventor and maker of the time keeper, for asserting the Longitude at sea: A man who by the force of great natural abilities, unafflicted by art, and with unwearied application through a long period of life, rendered himself an ornament to mechanicks, and an honour to his country".
