Joined by some engineers, soldiers and as well as Crown Prince İbrahim Tevfik Efendi on one occasion, French balloonist Barbotte conducted three flights over İstanbul and one over İzmir in his balloon named “Osmanlı”, May-June 1909. Barbotte's balloon is alighting from the Training Field (Talimhane) in front of the Artillery Corps Barracks. As a result of its strategic assessment, the Ottoman State decided against purchasing this particular balloon, and Barbotte returned back to France.
