Also in the case of this work by Giuseppe Vermiglio, we have no information about its provenance or about its arrival at the Pinacoteca. The painting shows Judith, who has just cut off the head of the Assyrian general Holofernes and is just about to put it into the sack held by her maid, as we are told in the Book of Judith. The painting, which was probably made in the 1620s, is very elegant, especially in the figure of the Israelite heroine. It is clearly derived from the style of Caravaggio, with the influence of Artemisia Gentileschi.
