Junction of the Dr. Barbosa de Castro Street and the Taipas Street.

Two fundamental streets stand between what used to be the New Jewish Quarter (Judiaria Nova) and the Virtudes Promenade: the Taipas Street and the Dr. Barbosa de Castro Street. The development of these urban roads and their differentiating characteristics must be understood not only through their relationship with the pre-existing New Jewish Quarter, but also through its topography, defined by a steep slope, and the presence of the Gothic wall. The Taipas Street followed the gothic wall’s outline on the inside, while the Dr. Barbosa de Castro, thus called from 1920 onward, was developed on the outside.
