The Kailasanatha Temple, located in the “Temple city” of Kanchipuram, is a testament to the skill, ingenuity and the exceptional architectural skills of the Pallava artisans. Nestled on the banks of the River Vedavathi, it is one of the oldest surviving monuments in the city of Kanchipuram. According to inscriptions, the temple was originally called “Rajasimha Pallavesvara Graham”. Unlike other pallava temples at Kanchipuram, this temple did not witness much addition by later dynasties, except for a few inscriptions by the Chalukya king Vikramaditya II and his wife Lokamadevi. Currently, the monument is protected and preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.
