The temple is said to have been painted from the top to the bottom. After its construction, the temple was washed with lime mortar, in order to prevent the weathering of the sandstone, upon which vibrant colours were added, to augment the beauty. These pigments were extracted from natural elements like flowers, vegetables, etc. Fragments of these paintings and the outlines of figures, can be seen in the sculptures. The gracefully painted, magnetic- eyes of the figures, and carefully painted patterns on their dresses, can still be seen, on the panels of the shrines.
