Kappalotiya Thamizhan (1961)

Based on V. O. Chidambaram Pillai's life, a nationalist businessman who launched the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company to break the British monopoly in shipping at the turn of the century, which earned him the honorific title Kappalotiya Thamizhan. Poems of poet Bharati were set to music and became popular songs. The film won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 1961.
