Hafu, or bargeboard, refers to a decorative panel attached to the gable of a Japanese-style roof. There are various types, including the undulating bargeboard (kara-hafu) and the dormer bargeboard (chidori-hafu). Karahafu bargeboards are common on roofs and eaves above entrances, gates and step canopies in Shinto shrines. A bargeboard of this type is used on the roof of the step canopy in the Seiden(Main Hall) of Shuriho Castle.
Destroyed by the fire in October 2019.
