Karl XV (1826-1872), King of Sweden and Norway, is on this equestrian portrait shown during one of his many military exercises. Carl Kiörboe has painted him in a hussar’s uniform with the rank of a general. Visible on his chest is the grand star of the Swedish Order of the Seraphim. Behind the King on his white horse are officers and parading soldiers. The motif with the popular King was widely spread. This portrait once belonged to Karl XV’s brother and successor to the throne, Oscar II, as can be noticed by the brand on the back of the painting.
