In 2010, American Kelly Slater won his fourth Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. The finals of the event had been moved two hours south west of Bells to Johanna Beach. After competing with a suspected broken foot Slater was sitting out a lull in the ocean during the finals. He thought about the indigenous crew that paint up the winners at Bells every year, and about the inspiration and support they had given him. In the closing minutes a wave appeared and won the event. At the presentation he acknowledged the indigenous support and donated his champion's trophy to the local Wauthurong aboriginal people, who have loaned it to the Australian National Surfing Museum.
