Vienna, Austria

During the Napoleonic Wars the Jews of Vienna proved to be extremely loyal to the Emperor and made considerable financial contributions. The Arnsteins, for example, supported the Tyrolean rebellion led by Andreas Hofer. In return, Emperor Franz I allowed the Jews to establish a prayer house and school in Dempfingerhof (Seitenstettengasse). It was there that this Torah crown was probably used for the first time, and then from 1826 in the City Temple.
