When Burma (present day Myanmar) was colonised by the British in 1886, court painters of the Konbaung dynasty and their apprentices started producing western style paintings using perspective and chiaroscuro. Making use of traditional subject matters, techniques and materials, this particular work presents a good example of this fusion with the western perspective. The painting shows a king meeting his followers. The detail of this painting is still unknown, but he is one of the apprentices of the court painters.
