King Yeongjo’s Advice to Posterity

Yeongjo’s admonition to punish the leader of Shinim massacre of scholars in 1721 (Yeongjo’s coronation year). As soon as Yeongjo ascended the throne, he composed this writing to punish Horyong Mok and Ilgyeong Kim of Soron party and made it published in woodblock print in 1741. The writing consists of Eoje daehum, Eoje gomyomun and Eoje gyodaesoshinryojungweiminseoseo. It writes about their treacherous act following cliquisma party spirit rather than justice, and how the king himself went through a difficult time because of them when he was a crown prince, and therefore ordered them to be severely punished.
