Souvenir reproduction of a soldier’s flag, called a knapsack flag or hanger flag. These were given to soldiers for various purposes, including to cover their equipment in the barrack dorms to make it look tidier, or to attach to their backpacks during combat so that artillery units could identify allied lines. They were also given to the widows of soldiers who died in combat, or hung from balconies if they returned home safe and well.
