The painting is narrating one of the important scenes of Kaliya Mardan. Kaliya serpent was polluting water of river and Krishna killed him. Here the scene is depicting an event when serpent Kaliya tried to kill Krishna by dunking in water. Balrama, brother of Krishna is bowing forward in an attempt to save Krishna. The serpent Kaliya is shown holding Krishna in his coil and going down in the water. In the centre on the bank of river a tree is depicted. On the left side on the tree some cows are standing while on the right side a group of six gopas are standing behind Balrama.
