Krishna playing the flute

Sat-Sai, is a collection of 700 (seven hundred) couplets of poet Bihari. He was the court poet of Mirza Raja Jai Singh I (1625-1677) Rajasthan. Paintings related with Bihari Sat-Sai is visual representation of the poems based on the life of lord Krishna. It is said that the poet got seven hundred gold mohurs for these couplets from Mirza Raja Jai Singh I. In the early 18th century, Mewar artists skilfully illustrated these couplets with profuse use of gold and inscribed lines of related poems on the top of the painting. In this painting lord Krishna is standing in the centre on a small mount and playing flute on the bank of a river. It is dark night and sky is full with black clouds. Gopis are standing on the bank of the river near Krishna and conversing something.
