This video – conceived as a long sequence shot in which the fixed frame takes in an aquatic setting populated by fantastic figures – presents a magical celebration of masks and circus performers in a series of actions and visual cues derived from popular culture. Lara Faveretto’s work frequently features carnival and circus figures and citations from films. The earth is too big concludes with the initial shot in which the background noise and the rhythmic and cadenced gestures of the figures allude to the concept of time, standing as a metaphor for its cyclical nature. In a continuous transposition between reality and imagination, as Lara Faveretto states, the video is an attempt to “make life become more fantastic than any invention of the imagination”.
