Lamp

These simple lamps were used as a source of light and were the precursors of more complex oil lamps. It depicts the moment when Ulysses ties himself to the mast to avoid being driven mad by the song of the sirens. It is made of ochre clay, and one of its openings was used to pour in the oil, while the hole in the spout was used for placing the wick. These lamps were usually decorated with a range of motifs. The shape and evolution of these oil lamps enables them to be dated to a particular moment in history.
