A Sami and two reindeer on a hill, facing steep peaky mountains in the background and a dramatic moon(?) light.
Balke is famous for his romantic pictures of northern Norway, where sometimes he would use his imagination to create a dramatic effect. One of his best-known pictures "a lighthouse on the Norwegian coast" is an example of this, it pictures a lighthouse in stormy weather in Vardø, when in fact there is no lighthouse in Vardø or nearby. This is also the case in "Landscape from Finnmark with Sami and Reindeer" since there are no mountains like these in Finnmark.
