In 1971, Akino toured Afghanistan for the first time and visited the capital city of Kabul as well the Bamiyan ruins, famous for its Buddhist remnants. This work depicts the sight of a giant cloud she saw on her way to Bamiyan, under the clear blue skies, moving across the sky and casting a shadow as deep those cast by mountains. The powerful brush of Akino, which depicts the strong impact of the flowing cloud and the sprawling mountains below, thoroughly depicts the grandeur of this region's scenery.
