Mir stayed in Majorca between 1900 and 1903, in the company of his friend Santiago Rusiñol. The discovery of the island's landscape had a great influence on his development as an artist, a process during which he cultivated landscape using a language of his own endowed with a certain abstraction combining light and colour. The work he did in Majorca earned him the admiration of the public and critics of the time, who appreciated his talent for turning nature into a spectacle filled with poetry. This drawing could be from this Majorcan period which made Mir one of the indisputable points of reference in Catalan artistic modernity.
