This jacket is made from merino shawl wool, handwoven and screen printed with Bramble Rose print, brass mirrors, gota work and habotai silk lining. The brass mirrors are set onto the wool, and caught in with a crochet stitch of varying colours. Seams are finished with a frayed taffeta bias strip. The blouse is made from silk twill screen printed with Bramble Rose print and aari embroidered with sequins, wire work, clay beads and ribbon. The skirt is screen-printed Fuji silk wth aari embroidery, sequins, wire work, clay beads and ribbon. The belt is silk, hand decorated with brass mirrors and metallic thread. Gota is a narrow ribbon woven on looms with a cotton warp and metal weft, originally real gold and silver. It uses a yarn that is pressed and rolled to flatten and polish it, before it is heat pressed or crimped to add relief patterns. Habotai is a plain weave silk fabric, soft and lightweight. It is also known as China silk. An aari is a handmade needle, or hook, with a sharp point at one end, used to embroider fabric. It is loaded with beads or sequins and is then pierced through the fabric. The thread, which is under the fabric, is picked up in the hook of the needle.
