Photograph of Lens, with the Green Crassier dominating the background of the photo. Following the successful assault on Hill 70, the Canadians fought to capture the Green Crassier in an attempt to take the city of Lens. Overlooking the eastern part of Lens, the Green Crassier was a strategic position which would have given the Canadians the possession of higher ground around Lens. The attempt to capture the Green Crassier, however, proved to be a disaster characterized by miscommunication, poor planing, and heavy casualties
