Letter signed and seconded by Manuel Odriozola (Lima, 1826 - 1888), director of the National Library of Peru from 1875 until the beginning of the occupation of Lima (1881), written within the framework of the War of the Pacific (1879-1883). . This document was written by Ricardo Palma (Lima, 1833 - 1919), deputy director of the institution at that time.
In this handwritten document, the then US minister, Isaac Christiancy (New York, 1812 - Michigan, 1890) is informed about the looting committed in the National Library of Peru by the Chilean authority during the period of the aforementioned war, expressing his protest and indignation at such fact.
