    [Letter Start] Kalakaua by the Grace of God of the Hawaiian Islands King. To His Imperial Majesty Mutsu Hito, Emperor of Japan. Great and Good Friend. It having been announced to Us that the 3rd from, your Imperial Majesty will celebrate the attainment of Your Imperial Majesty's 36th Birthday. We hasten in the spirit of loyal and sincere friendship that has for as long been maintained between Us and which We desire to preserve to offer Our most heartful congratulations upon the auspicious event which will be so sym-pathetically commemorated by Your Majesty's faith-ful land patriotic subjects and loving friends. We ask Your Majesty to put full faith in the prayer We offer up for the continuance of Your Majesty's happy reign and for the prosperity of Your Majesty and that of Your Imperial House and above all [STOP]
