Lim Kim San married Pang Gek Kim, the daughter of pawnbroker-turned-banker Pang Cheng Yean. Lim tells of how he was match-made three times to the same girl.4 The couple had six children. The wedding portrait shows the groom in a Qing-style scholar’s robe and skull cap, while the bride wears a long silk robe with a pleated silk skirt and a crown of gold pins (sanggul kemantin) fastened in a chignon and headband. Lim’s embroidered wedding slippers were donated to the museum by his son, Lim Kiat Seng.
