Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
New York, United States

Philharmonic Hall is the only completed building on the Lincoln Center campus, but the New York State Theater is almost done. Notice the gaping hole in its side? A section of the building needed to be removed so that Elie Nadelman’s giant twin sculptures—each 20 feet high—could be brought into the building. The backstage areas of the Metropolitan Opera House are rising (middle left), and its iconic archives are beginning to take shape. The Vivian Beaumont Theater (to the right of the opera) is well under way. Damrosch Park is the large paved area to the left of the opera; it will be used to house construction offices and equipment until the opera house is completed.

Image faces north. Beginning at the bottom of the image, Columbus Avenue angles north, crossing Broadway at the corner of Philharmonic Hall. The Hudson River can be seen at the left of the image.
