The Rev. Harry Brown, an African American minister well known to the Lincoln family, attended the hearse. Lincoln's rider-less horse, Old Bob, followed just behind. Lincoln was the first president to be honored with a caparisoned horse (wearing special decorative covering) at his funeral.
