Palm’s prevalent urban image – the nocturnal city – had a place in the broader context of the Estonian cultural landscape. Consider, for instance, the explosive popularity of urban literature in the Estonian SSR. Palm’s urban themes are on the same wavelength as the urban novels that appeared in the 1970s and, of course, as the works of the writer Mati Unt, with whom he cooperated.
Eesti kultuurimaastikul asetus Palmi valitsev linnakujund – öine linn – laiemasse konteksti, mõelgem näiteks linnaromaani plahvatuslikule levikule ENSVs. Palmi linnateemad on samal lainel 1970. aastatel esilekerinud linnaromaaniga ja muidugi Mati Undiga, kellega tal oli koostöösuhe.
