Altar vase, in Middle Eastern style, with globular body, with high neck, a truncated cone base and a pair of "C" shaped handles.
The belly of the vase is decorated with a medallion in which is inscribed the first sentence of the profession of faith (shah?da) in "God One and Only" written in Arabic characters.
It could have been part of a furniture service for a mosque or for the home of a rich Chinese man of Islamic faith.
