The buttons were found by Timmins Martelle Heritage Consultants Inc., in Putnam, Ontario. The buttons identify Boggett & Reynolds, London, Great Britain, as the manufacturer, made between 1852 and 1859. The buttons depict a motto, a crest, and a coronet (crown) of rank. The motto reads Nemo Me Impune Lacessit that translates to “no one can harm me unpunished”. Based on these, it is suspected that the buttons may have been part of the uniform of a household staff member of George Gordon, the 4th Earl of Aberdeen and former British Prime Minister.
