“Lost” is a series of oil paintings, a visual representation of my personality crisis. At the change of
my environment I found myself exposed to new customs and traditions that are foreign to me,
interacting with people different from the ones I used to talk to, and behaving in a way that was
unlike me.
At the edge of my confusion I felt nostalgic sitting in front of the sea filling its endless water with
drops of my tears. Unfortunately there is no sea in Johannesburg but it didn’t erase its pretense from
my memory. Unconsciously I found myself painting sea landscapes, a therapy that permitted me to
find peace with myself.
Whenever I felt the need I added color drops to the sea painting, and by the end of the project I
realized that I didn’t lose myself but I just changed. The version of myself that once existed is
different from the one I’m now which will no longer exist in the future probably. That’s the process
that it takes to become the best version of ourselves, that's what it takes to grow.
