Gyeongju National Museum

Gyeongju National Museum
Gyeongju-si, South Korea

This statue is made of reddish-yellow agalmatolite, which helps to draw attention to the fine texture and color combination of the stone. The base structure of the lion statue was broken off, which makes it difficult to identify the intended use of the statue. The lidded jar is engraved with a lotus flower on the body and the lid handle is shaped after cintamani, a wish-fulfilling jewel. This is presumed to be a Sarira jar.
