This is Louis Jordan. He was a wonderful singer, bandleader, and saxophonist whose group- known as The Tympani Five - became one of the most popular small bands of the 1940’s Their unique sound created the rhythm and blues style that led directly to the advent of rock and roll. This rare recording was made very early in Jordan’s career and listen for the announcer at the end giving the address and phone number of the Harlem club they were playing.
