Louis (or Lajos) Kossuth (1802-1894) was a Hungarian general, and the foremost leader of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849. The French artist Alfred Borrel sculpted a bronze medal of Governor Kossuth, commemorating his trip to the United States in 1851-1852. This sulphide portrait appears to have been cast from the bronze medal.
