Lovers

Vinckboons came from the southern Netherlands to Amsterdam when he was only 15 years of age. This painting from his later years combines a flat landscape in the background with a forest interior adhering to Flemish traditions in the front. The genre scene depicted, two lovers watched from behind rendered here in a modern, casual way, has a long tradition.
