Lt. General Carol Mutter
United States Marine
1945 -
INDUCTED 2004
Breaking through barriers has been Lieutenant General Carol Mutter’s specialty. She served 31+ years in the United States Marine Corps
Lt. Mutter was the first female to be nominated by a U.S. President to wear three stars and the first female Marine to serve in such capacity. Mutter’s military leadership prowess led to her appointment as Space Director at the U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs, and the first female flag officer to command a tactical unit, in Okinawa, Japan. As the “Band of Sisters” grows, Mutter’s example has paved the way for full acceptance of women in all branches of military service.
“The concept ‘once a Marine, always a Marine,’ holds just as true for female Marines as it does for their male counterparts.“ — Lt. General Carol Mutter
